چکیده

Controlled laminar turbulent transition of a D boundary layer ow caused by localized surface nonuniformities is investigated by means of spatial direct numerical simulations DNS based on the complete incompressible D Navier Stokes equations and a combined th order compact Finite Di erence spanwise Fourier spectral scheme The considered laminar spanwise invariant at plate base ow is a model of the boundary layer ow in the front region of a swept wing with favorable and ensuing adverse chordwise pressure gradient The primary down stream growth and nonlinear interaction of vortex packet modes as well as the appearance of a secondary instability mechanism leading to turbulence is investi gated in detail The e ectiveness of a steady nonlinear upstream ow deformation of the base ow with respect to signi cant transition delay is shown

Numerical Simulation of Separation Bubble on Elliptic Cylinders Using Three-equation k-? Turbulence Model

Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...

Aerodynamic Noise Computation of the Flow Field around NACA 0012 Airfoil Using Large Eddy Simulation and Acoustic Analogy

The current study presents the results of the aerodynamic noise prediction of the flow field around a NACA 0012 airfoil at a chord-based Reynolds number of 100,000 and at 8.4 degree angle of attack. An incompressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model is applied to obtain the instantaneous turbulent flow field. The noise prediction is performed by the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-...

DNS of laminar-turbulent transition in swept-wing boundary layers

Direct numerical simulation (DNS) is performed to examine laminar to turbulent transition due to high-frequency secondary instability of stationary crossflow vortices in a subsonic swept-wing boundary layer for a realistic natural-laminar-flow airfoil configuration. The secondary instability is introduced via inflow forcing and the mode selected for forcing corresponds to the most amplified sec...

Direct Numerical Simulation of Transition in a Swept-Wing Boundary Layer

Direct numerical simulation (DNS) is performed to examine laminar to turbulent transition due to high-frequency secondary instability of stationary crossflow vortices in a subsonic swept-wing boundary layer for a realistic natural-laminar-flow airfoil configuration. The secondary instability is introduced via inflow forcing derived from a two-dimensional, partial-differential-equation based eig...
